The Devil's Hooves Alight in Pebbletown

The Devil had been away for some time and was paying respects to those he had missed the most on his sojourn. As he approached the house of the sovereign, a whirling dervish made itself known in the form of dust and asphalt debris swirling around his head. He should have heeded the warning. Of course, the devil thinks he is invincible, and felt as though he was up to the challenge. Perhaps he looked forward to the thrill a little, who knows. In the devil’s absence, the sovereign had found the lord. There is no turning back from such a discovery. There is only leaving people behind. It was with a long face and a heavy heart that she bid the devil adieu.
